4 May COWDEN (h) WON after the previous week’s difficult wickets, the recent sun helped show a marked improvement as Cowden powered to an impressive 211 for 2 from the 42 overs bowled at them. But Cowden paid for their lack of penetrative bowling as Exton, 55, Keeler, 29, Anderson, 63 not out and Max O’Collins, 30, all contributed as Fordcombe won by 4 wickets with about 5 overs left. In the flurry of wickets that fell towards the end Bob Howard survived a hat-trick ball to finish on 9 not out.
3 May OLD ELTHAMIANS (a) CANCELLED
27 April IGHTHAM (h) WON another difficult wicket saw the visitors bowled out for 145, with Worcester taking 4 for 33, and at only 3 an over! The return to the team of Mike Latter saw an immediate increase in the arm movements of newly qualified umpire Michelle Anderson, who wasn’t overly taxed in the early wide decisions. She was soon in Fordcombe’s good books in the second innings as Keeler became an early LBW victim. However, Chris Townsend could do no wrong as 5 huge sixes propelled him to 87 not out, which, in tandem with Hamish Anderson’s 39, saw the target reached for only 2 wickets in under 30 overs.
26 April CHIDDINGSTONE (h) WON a typical early season wicket saw the home team struggle to reach 100 all out. Incredibly, this total included 23 byes – a result of the Chiddingstone wicket-keeper’s insistence on standing up to the wicket, and then not coping with the lack of bounce. Denning and Andrew Crossan’s last wicket stand of 14 was the third highest of the innings. New Chiddingstone member Phil Barnett was not given a chance to show off his bowling talents, as 2 overs was hardly enough for him to lossen that stiff winter shoulder. In reply Chiddingstone could only muster an all out score of 62, as 4 bowlers shared the wickets. With the departure of Perry as well as Barnett from the team, the slow bowling mantle seemed to have worringly passed to Denis Oliver, who sent down 7 overs for 13 runs.
